Brian McKenna retired after 30 years with the Hazelwood (MO) Police Department. At the time of his retirement, he was assigned to the patrol division as a shift supervisor (lieutenant), and also served as an in-service trainer and lead firearms instructor. He is a state-certified police instructor, Certified Force Science Analyst, Realistic De-Escalation Instructor, and a former academy instructor. He is also a frequent police training conference presenter and holds a master’s degree in management and human resource development. Brian has written extensively on officer safety topics, and for 22 years authored Police Marksman Magazine’s “Officer Down” column, a regular feature that analyzed officer-involved shootings for key learning points. The column was the magazine’s most popular feature because of the compelling stories it told and the effectiveness of real-life case studies on adult learning.
Brian also trains police officers in officer safety and winning mindset through his company Winning Edge Training and uses his extensive knowledge on those subjects to train citizens.
